Five nonviolent activists were forbidden from boarding a plane from Washington to Israel – and neither the airline (Lufthansa) nor the Israeli government will explain why or show us the related documentation. In response, the Jewish Voice for Peace has launched a petition containing the following message:
To Ambassador Dermer –
As a supporter of Jewish Voice for Peace I’m writing to ask you to let all who share a vision of freedom, equality, and justice for all people of Israel/Palestine to be able to fly there. Five activists – Jewish, Christian, and Muslim, all with proud records of working in interfaith coalitions for justice – were prevented from going to Israel on July 23. Please explain to us why this happened, and drop the Activist Travel Ban!
Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) describes its mission in the following way:
JVP opposes anti-Jewish, anti-Muslim, and anti-Arab bigotry and oppression. JVP seeks an end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem; security and self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians; a just solution for Palestinian refugees based on principles established in international law; an end to violence against civilians; and peace and justice for all peoples of the Middle East. Current mission statement adopted in 2009.
